Evaluation Question 3

Evaluation Question 3

'What have you learned from your audience feedback?'

Me and Steven have taken on audience feedback throughout the whole of the project by using 'SurveyMonkey'. We have always taken peoples ideas on how we can improve our ancillary tasks and the documentary and it has always made it much better than it was already. We have always wanted our audience to have a preferred response (Stuart Hall's Theory) of the feelings of hope and happiness. From the audience feedback that me and Steven have received from the questionnaires that we handed out, we can tell that most of the 37 people that have watched our documentary and seen both of the ancillary task in an Sixth Form assembly, like what they have seen because on the feedback one person said "It's a good insight into the school with a personal touch and an very good soundtrack". From the 37 people that we asked to watch our documentary and see the ancillary tasks, 33 of the people said that they did like our documentary that we have created with 4 people saying "It personally does not interest me".

Did you like our documentary we created graph

From looking back at some of the comments about our documentary, most people gave our positive feedback like; "It looks like a actual documentary", "It's been edited nicely and has a good
soundtrack" and "The interviews are professional". However, we did have some feedback from some people that gave me and Steven some constructive feedback about the documentary like "I could not hear the questions being asked" and "There was only one focus". Me and Steven have both taken this information into consideration and will improve on what we have received to make our documentary more professional. Some people did say that "parts of the documentary that we have created looks staged and should be more professional" but we can not do anything about that as that is down to the teacher and students and how they should react.

Teacher Talking to the Student Outside the Classroom

This is the part of the documentary that the people took the questionnaire thought looked very staged. I can see why they think this was staged because the way that they spoke to each other did not seem natural to when a teacher not tells off a student.

The audience that we are targeting our C2DE which is the lower three social and economic groups in society. I felt this would be the audience that we would target because that is normally where parents and teachers would come into the social and economic groups. The reason why they would want to watch this is because they may have children that would soon want to go to school so they would want to see what it is like and teachers may want to see what it is like in other schools around the UK and find out some new information and learn about schools around the UK (Uses and Gratifications Theory - Information and Learning).

Your segments that we are trying to target are;
  • Tribe Wired (Digital, free-spirited and creative)
  • Fun/Atics (Aspirational, fun-seeking and active young people)
  • Struggled Singles (People with high aspirations and a low economic status)
  • Settled Elders (Older people, sedentary lifestyles - settled down and not to active)
The reasons why we have picked these for is because we believe that these are the people within the C2DE social and economic groups and would be interested in watching our documentary. We asked the college students to pick what social groups they think we are targeting and this is the results that we got back.

What social and economic groups are we targeting graph

As you can see from the graph above you can see that most of the people thought that we would be targeting the Fun/Atics people that are 'Inspirational, fun-seeking and active young people' so they must think that we would also be targeting the younger demographic as well as the older demographic of parents and teachers.

Quotes about how professional is the documentary
  • Could not hear the questions asked (needs a voice over)
  • Interviews are professional
  • It looks realistic
  • Well produced, good balance of information
  • Only had one focus
  • I like how you've asked the view of the teacher

Most of the people that we asked to watch out documentary were female with 19 out of 37 and then the other 18 was male. From looking at this we can tell that we can target our documentary at both genders because they both seemed to like our documentary and found it very interesting with some people saying "I would want this to be on TV." This is amazing feedback that me and Steven thought was very nice to hear but we would also wanted to hear some criticism because we want to improve our documentary even more.

Are you Male or Female graph

The audience looked at both ancillary tasks as well, which we got mixed responses from them. For the magazine advert that was created by Steven their was a lot of mixed responses with some people saying that "It's a good design" and "Looks professional" but then there was also a lot of criticism from people like "It's too basic", "It is plain and boring" and "Not enough writing". For the double page spread that I create, people said that "It looks professional" and "It looks realistic" but there was also some criticism like "The photo in the middle does not fit the rest of the magazine". Me and Steven have looked at the feedback that we have got received and are going to make the improvements from that they said.

We have got a lot of feedback; the fonts we used with in the ancillary tasks and what people thought of the prelim video that we made. We have take peoples ideas that they have given me and Steven throughout our project as, we decided to pick the font that we thought looked the best but also incorporated what the people that took our questions decision was. The people that took the questionnaire said that option 2 was the best option to go onto our ancillary tasks so we decided to go with a font that looked like it as we was unable to access that font. We done all of the previous questionnaire on 'SurveyMonkey' and I believe this was more effective because we were able to have more people take our questionnaire and more information about on what we could improve on and why we should improve on it.

Double Page Spread

Magazine Advert

From receiving people's feedback we have made our documentary and ancillary tasks much more professional.

Quotes about the Magazine advert.
  • Too Basic
  • Put together well
  • Looks Professional
  • Not that much on it
  • Plain/boring
  • Looks like modern magazine adverts
Quotes about the Double Page Spread
  • Good information and pictures
  • Looks formal
  • It looks realistic
  • Photo in the middle does not fit the rest of the magazine
  • Good layout
  • Looks professional

We gave two questions the 37 people in the Sixth Form assembly saying 'Does the magazine advert look professional' and 'Does the double page spread look professional'. We know that not everyone is going to like our ancillary tasks but some people would like what we have created. I have made two graphs to show the results of what we have got about the two ancillary tasks.

Does the Magazine Advert look professional graph

Does the Double Page Spread look professional graph

From the results that we have received back, the magazine advert had 25 out of 32 people said that the magazine advert looked professional. The double page spread has 28 out of 32 people said that the double page spread looked professional. Me and Steven both said that we should have a question that the print texts would encourage you to watch it as, we thought that it would look at the promotion of the documentary and would they want to watch it.

Would the print texts encourage you to watch it graph

21 out of the 33 responses that we had back from this question, they said that the double page spread would encourage them to watch it. Some of the people said "It intrigues me" but some people did say "They are too boring and would not grab anyone's attention" but me and Steven both know that we are going to get everyone to like our documentary but as long as we get most people too like it then we would get a good audience to watch it. However, we would take this persons feedback into consideration and we would change it to make it look more eye catching.

From what we have learned about both of the ancillary tasks, is that both of the magazine advert and the double page spread need improving in some way. For the double page spread that I have created, I needed to make the main image more central because that is a convention of a double page spread. Whereas, the magazine advert was apparently to plain and boring so Steven would have to change that to make it more eye catching.

Summary
Overall, from looking at the results that we have received back, I can tell that most of the people that we have shown our documentary too would like to watch it again because "It looks professional". The ancillary tasks would of been better with but it did not appeal to some of the people and we would just have to target the C2DE audience that we have said that we are going to target as our audience in a previous blog post.
